CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Aug 16 (acn) The Maraguan Artistic Group of the University of Camaguey returned to the island with two prizes from its most recent presentations abroad, in two cities of Algeria, where it took part in festivals as the only representatives of Cuba and Latin America.
An acknowledgement to the best artistic performance was received by the young amateur artists at the International Cultural Festival of Popular Dances of the city of Sidi Bel Abbes, on August 6-10, where they presented three of their most representative shows of Cuban folklore. At Sidi Bel Abbes, they participated in the inaugural passacaglia and later were selected to close the inaugural gala.
In a press conference, Cesar Morales Ortega, director of the group, explained that the award was given to Maraguan for its excellent choreographic work, its cleanness, synchrony and finish, characteristics difficult to achieve in amateur groups.
Although not conceived in the original program of the trip, their stay in the International Cultural Festival of Popular Dances of the city of Sidi Bel Abbes earned them an invitation to the 9th Arabian-African International Folk Festival, in the Algerian city of Tizi-Ouzou, where they received a Certificate of Honor.
