HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 5 (acn) Cuba will be the Guest of Honor of the International Festival of Mayan Culture (Ficmaya) to be held in 2015 in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, announced on Tuesday in this capital Jorge Esma Bazan, president of the Festival.
We want to establish a cultural bridge in 2015 from the world of our ancestors to the Caribbean around us, asserted Esma Bazan, also a playwright and cultural promoter of the next edition of the meeting, which seeks to "not only entertain but also educate and at the same time exchange knowledge."
This cultural and academic event also makes it possible, thanks to the cooperation of entities of the Mexican government, to study and witness the richness of native cultures, particularly the Mayan culture, which predominates this region of the northern country.
Esma Bazan announced that in order to make Cuba's participation official, there will be a Tarde habanera (Havana Evening), a show that will close Ficmaya 2014 –on October 17-26- and that will include artists like the Havana Compass Dance company, the Buena Vista Social Club and the young musicians of Frasis.
Films, books, workshops, keynote lectures, music and dance will be among the attractions participants in this celebration of traditions will find.
