Cuba and Finland strengthen inter-parliamentary ties


HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 28 (ACN) Heli Jarvinen, president of the Group of Friendship with Cuba in the Finnish Parliament, received today Victor Manuel Rodriguez, charge d'affaires a.i of Cuba, and they held a dialogue on the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary ties.

At the meeting, both parties agreed to continue working towards the development of bilateral relations, according to the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Rodriguez updated his counterpart on the new measures taken in Cuba to confront COVID-19 and on the news of the existence of a Cuban vaccine candidate, which began to be on trial of its first phase on August 24th.
The diplomat provided updated data on the impact of the epidemic on the Caribbean nation and on the enormous effort of the authorities to stop the spread of the virus, under exceptional conditions of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.
Jarvinen thanked Rodriguez and invited him to hold a meeting on the subject with the Friendship group in the Parliament, which in the current legislature has 11 deputies.
Cuba and Finland have confirmed their willingness to work to increase economic-commercial, investment and cooperation exchanges. Likewise, the Caribbean island appreciates the support of this European country for the resolution that calls for ending the blockade.
