HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (ACN) The 17th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) was held in Havana to review the current situation of the continent, marked by the struggle of the peoples for social and economic demands.
Present were Presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, from Cuba; Nicolás Maduro, from Venezuela; and Daniel Ortega, from Nicaragua; David Choquehuanca, Secretary General of the organization; Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as foreign ministers from member countries.
The multilateral bloc emerged on December 14, 2004 on the initiative of Fidel Castro, historical leader of the Cuban Revolution; and Hugo Chávez, of the Bolivarian Revolution, and this year celebrates its first 15 years of foundation.
Over the years it has promoted cooperation projects such as Operation Miracle, which restored sight to millions of people; the Yo sí puedo teaching method, as well as sending medical missions to intricate places in several countries.
In the economic sphere, it has succeeded in consolidating projects such as the ALBA Bank, which has been used to finance infrastructure construction programs, the development of maritime, land and air transport, tourism complementation and the production of basic foodstuffs in each country.
