China and Cuba cooperate on the Internet matter

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (acn) Cuba and China are taking steps of cooperation on the Internet area and we intend to continue this close relationship from immediate work, said Wilfredo Gonzalez, Cuba´s first deputy minister in the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM).

In the China-Cuba Internet Forum held at Havana´s Melia Cohiba hotel, Gonzalez referred to the process of updating Cuban economic model, in which new technologies are a strategic sector.
More than six million users access Internet in Cuba and its inclusive nature stands out by prioritizing its use in education, health, and scientific and cultural development, said Gonzalez.
Organized by MINCOM and the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the Forum aims to discuss cooperation in the network of networks and address regulations related to Internet governance.
Sheng Ronghua, CAC deputy director, noted that both countries had strengthened their collaboration with the visit in 2014 to Cuba of Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel, to the Asian nation in 2018.
Referring to the great advances of his country in the sector, Ronghua mentioned the more than 845 million Internet users and the enormous development of its digital economy, which ranks second worldwide.
As part of the process of computerization of society, Cuba is committed to promoting international cooperation at the political, operational and technical level in the prevention of cyber accidents that threaten national security.
