Science is Nourished with Scientific Evidence, Says Cuban Expert

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 16 (acn) The head of the Neurology Service of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana Dr. Nelson Gomez Viera said on Thursday in the Cuban capital that science is nourished with scientific evidence.

Speaking to the Cuban News Agency, the specialist, who is one of the members of the Team of Experts that participates in the investigations on the alleged sonic attacks against US diplomats in Havana said that from a medical point of view the hypothesis is not viable as the cause of the symptoms described.

The team of experts concluded that from a physical point of view, one of the hypothesis that they studied is that a sonic attack was not possible because recordings of sounds handed over by the US government do not surpass 80 decibels, which is an intensity that can begin to produce some sort of ear ailment, he said.

According to the scientist, what called out their attention is that only the diplomats were allegedly affected and not the people they live with or neighbors reported any of the symptoms.

He pointed out that other possible causes were also investigated like high blood pressure that could have caused the symptoms, in addition to having had inflammation of the ears or Menier syndrome.

None of the symptoms was presented in an acute or massive form as previously reports, said the expert who reiterated that none of those affected went to a health center.

He stressed that experts coincided that a psychological factor or stress could have triggered the symptoms of the diplomats and announced that the investigations on the possible medical causes will continue.

Unfortunately none of the results of the tests have been shared by the US authorities, only a very limited medical report was received and none from any particular patient.

With this, it is very complicated to carry out an adequate scientific analysis of what has caused the symptoms, said the neurologist who participates in the NeuroCuba 2017 International Congress with the participation of 500 representatives from some 15 countries that will conclude on Saturday.
