HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 6 (acn) During the month of October, nine records of maximum monthly temperature were established in different parts of Cuba, according to the Climate Centre of the Cuban Meteorology Institute, Granma newspaper published.
The new tops occurred in Bahia Honda, with 34.9 Celsius degrees; Bainoa, 33.6; Union de Reyes, 35.3; Playa Giron, 34.0; Trinidad, 35.7; Santa Cruz del Sur, 34.8; Contramaestre, 36.0, Gran Piedra, 27.8, and Velasco, 35.8.
Above the historical average by 0.3, the national average temperature was of 26.3 Celsius degrees; the maximum average reached 31.3, one degree above normal; and the low average was of 21.7, to match the historical average.
Similarly, a low temperature record took place in the tenth month of the year in Pinares de Mayari, where the thermometer marked 13.1 Celsius degrees in the early morning of the seventh.
The hurricane activity was also the highest of the season during this month by recording the formation of three tropical storms called Fay, Gonzalo and Hanna, of which the first two reached hurricane status.
Depending on the formation of tropical storms in November, this season could be the lowest one since 1998, as only eight of these events have been reported to date, one less than the annual average.
