HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 10 (acn) The Agriculture Ministry will incorporate modern technologies and machinery to henequen manufacturing which will reduce energy consumption and increase the efficiency of its production.
This investment will allow the closing of productive cycles aimed at substituting imports and satisfying the demand of ropes needed in tobacco, forestry and other agricultural firms, said Jose Antonio Collazo, specialist o the MINAG Agro Forestry Company.
With the assembly of the first two plants the quality of final product was elevated last year making work easier for the employees, reduced water and electricity consumption and protects the environment.
He added that these ecological equipment originating in Brazil are capable of elaborating 533 kilograms of humid fiber in an 8 hour working day, equivalent to 4.5 tons of dry ready to use fiber.
As part of the actions underway aimed at rescuing the production workers' salaries were also increased.
Collazo informed that new equipment will arrive to the country to continue increasing the industrial efficiency.
The National Henequen Company is almost ready to be created which will help plan a development strategy for its cultivation and will gather the already existent companies in the provinces of Artemisa, Matanzas, Holguin and Cienfuegos.
Ministry of Agriculture statistics indicate that Cuba produces some 500 tons of henequen fiber in a year.
