FAO supports technology transfer for Cuban agricultureHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 3 (acn) The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Cuban authorities signed two agreements to support technology transfer in the areas of agriculture, food security, nourishment and sustainable management of natural resources in Cuban research and production centers.

The documents were penned in Havana by FAO representative Theodor Friedrich and by the director of International Economic Organizations with the Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Ministry William Diaz.
The first accord aims at supporting the ranching sector on the island by increasing the productive and technical capacities in order to boost its milk and meat yield. This project will run till 2018 on a 372 thousand dollar budget.
The second document counts on a 370-thousand-dollar budget to train key actors in the production of biologically fortified grains and in the genetic improvement and production of bean seeds.
The two projects are part of a current accord between FAO and the Brazilian Company for Agriculture Research, aimed at expanding the exchange of expertise and technical cooperation in developing nations.
