BAYAMO, Cuba, Mar 20 (ACN) The 11th International Conference on the Peoples and their Culture dedicated to Cuban music successfully ended on Tuesday in the city of Bayam, said the Director of Museums of the National Heritage Council, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Rodriguez.
The expert characterized the meeting, held since the 17th, as an important space to value from an academic point of view the need to protect and conserve musical heritage, which transforms each day in the historic memory of nations.
He recalled the musical tradition and its main exponents in the current province of Granma, elements that are closely tied to the independence struggles and the formation of the Cuban nationality.
Gonzalez Rodriguez said that the Conference was distinguished for its organization, profound theories, high spirit of cooperation among its participants and ties established with the community and the rest of the cultural institutions in the territory.
Member of the Scientific Committee Aldo Daniel Naranjo highlighted that among the main issues discussed in the 86 works that were presented, musical traditions; and the museum as an interaction space between culture and spirituality.
He also highlighted the works on the cultural consumption of the heritage contexts; diversity in archeology and anthropology; and the protection of heritage in the schools, university and tourism.
The event was dedicated to the musical heritage of the Cuban nation and had the participation of researchers from Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos, Las Tunas, Camaguey, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Granma and Mexico.
The main sites of the event were the Manuel Munoz Cedeno Provincial Museum, Birthplace of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, Wax Museum among other entities extended to the city of Manzanillo.
The encounter is sponsored each year by the Cultural Heritage Provincial Center and the Manuel Munoz Cedeno Provincial Museum in addition to the Metropolitana de Mexico Autonomous University, the University of Granma, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples and the Provincial Culture Office.
