HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 31 (acn) Making Latin American common historic and cultural background in a tool for unity and development, based on dialog, cooperation and solidarity is the challenge posed on Ibero-American nations.
The statement is part of the final declaration of the 25th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Governments held over the weekend in Cartagenas de Indias, Colombia.
All 22 nations with the bloc committed themselves to jointly work to improve the education of their young generations and create jobs for the newly qualified labor.
Along with the declaration, the Ibero-American nations adopted the Ibero-American Pact for the Youth, a plan of action for Ibero-American cooperation and 14 special communiqué.
The central document of the meeting contains 41 points expressing special attention to education, youth and entrepreneurship, and includes the wish to back the new generations in their effort to join an advanced labor market, marked by the prevalence of new technologies.
The summit favored the sustainable increase of investment in science, technology and innovation to boost cooperation among Ibero-American nations in their efforts to develop infrastructure, equipment and human resources.
The protection of ethnic minorities and population sectors discriminated against were high on the declaration. In this regards, the signatory countries reiterated their commitment to the protection and promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples and afro-descendants for their social, cultural and economic development.
At the end of the forum, Colombia´s Juan Manuel Santos passed the pro-temporary chair of the Ibero-American Conference to his counterpart from Guatemala, Jimmy Morales. Guatemala will host the next summit in the coming two years.
