Cuba graduates new designers

Cuba graduates new designersHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 23 (acn) Close to their graduation from specialties of Industrial Design and Visual Communication, 117 young people will be part of the generation of Cuban professionals in that field that henceforth will put into practice their knowledge.

Sergio Luis Peña, rector of the Higher Institute of Industrial Design (ISDI by its Spanish acronym), told ACN that the new graduates, responsible for continuing the work of the Revolution, will receive their certificates on July 8th.

He said that for the next academic year, ISDI will join the University of Havana, a fact which he described as a major challenge, as that house of higher learning holds the category of excellent.

He added that the enrollment should increase to 160 students, coming mainly from Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Villa Clara and Camagüey, territories with more potential.

The rector noted that from the next course, the degree of design will be optimized to four years, reduction that allows the students having more responsibility in their work without much prescience.

Peña mentioned the actions of the Ministry of Higher Education to successfully execute these transformations, in pursuit of not to repeat contents, save time, and for the semesters to have a horizontal coordination.

Referring to bibliography, he underlined that it is updated, and most of the books were digitized, in tune with "the multimedia generation."

With the creation of the National Office of Industrial Design in 1980 and the subsequent inauguration of the Higher Institute, the activity of this association, which last May organized the 1st Design Biennial of Havana, really progressed in Cuba.
