International Festival of New Latin American Cinema kicks off in Havana

International Festival of New Latin American Cinema kicks off in HavanaHAVANA , Cuba, Dec 3 (acn) The 37th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will be inaugurated tonight at Karl Marx Theater with the screening of the feature film El Clan (2015), directed by the renowned Argentine filmmaker Pablo Trapero.

Starring the famous actor Guillermo Francella –El Secreto de sus Ojos (2009), Corazon de Leon (2013) - and Peter Lanzani, the thriller revolves around the case of Puccio Clan, a criminal family in the Argentina of the 1980s.
This film, the first of Trapero based on true events, has already reached significant laurels at festivals in Venice, Toronto and San Sebastian.
In addition to becoming the most successful film in its first weekend in the history of Argentine cinema -after beating Relatos Salvajes (2014) with more than 500 000 sold entries -, El Clan will represent the Latin American country in the next edition of Oscar Awards.
Trapero , considered one of the greatest exponents of the new Argentine cinematography emerged in the mid-nineties, has participated in Havana Film Festival numerous times with films like Nacido y Criado (2006), Leonera (2008) and Elefante Blanco (2012), which have been awarded in various categories.
This year's edition includes the presence of British actress Geraldine Chaplin, who will receive at the opening ceremony the Coral Prize for best actress in leading role, awarded last year to the film Dolares de Arena (Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Mexico).
