Cuban Film La Obra del Siglo Opens ICAIC Young Sample.

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 1 (acn) The national premiere of the feature film La Obra del Siglo (The Work of the Century) by young filmmaker Carlos M. Quintela took place yesterday at Havana's Chaplin Cinema as part of the opening of the 14th ICAIC Young Sample.

In the presentation, the critic Dean Luis Reyes said that the film recreates the story of three characters that make their way to a reality that suffocates them, through reflection on memory.

The possibility of thinking about language as a way of risk is also present in the film, said Reyes.

The critic also highlighted how The Work of the Century, Quintela´s second feature film with screenwriter Abel Arcos, emerged from an initial project which takes place in Juraguá, Cienfuegos province.

This Sample has the aim to bring works that set fire of discord and this film is one of them, Reyes noted.

Mario Balmaseda, Mario Guerra, Manuel Porto, Jorge Molina, Leonardo Gascón and Damarys Gutierrez, among others, are enrolled in the film.

With an extensive international tour, The Work of the century won a prize at the Festival of Toulouse in France just two days ago and also was awarded in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Carlos M. Quintela, meanwhile, has made several short films, but his first feature film was La Piscina (The Pool) (2011), which has won more than 10 prizes in various competitions in the world, including the Jury Award at the Marrakech International Festival.
