Homage to Salvador Wood Marks Beginning of ICAIC CelebrationsHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 13 (acn) The large and prolific work of Salvador Wood in the movies will be remembered on Saturday, in Cojimar, east of this city, with which will start the festivities for the 56th anniversary of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC by its Spanish acronym).

It is a tribute they want to make to the family, and especially to my father for his performance in significant films as La muerte de un burócrata, El brigadista, Jíbaro, La segunda hora de Esteban Zayas, Ustedes tienen la palabra and Caravana, Patricio Wood, son of the famed artist of radio, television and theater, told ACN.

The meeting is scheduled for six p.m. in which in addition to the first of these films, a documentary that was made when he turned 80, directed by the young filmmaker Ernesto Sánchez and with the name Salvador de Cojimar, will be displayed, Wood noted.

He stated that the act will bring together neighbors, a group of colleagues and friends , "including filmmakers and technicians, who have not only worked with my father but share affection and great love for him."

He mentioned among those invited to Enrique Pineda Barnet, Manuel Pérez, Manuel Herrera, Eslinda Nuñez, Nancy Gonzalez, Obelia Blanco, Cristina Obin and Enrique Molina, so he advanced that it will be a historic occasion for the Cuban cinema and for the people of that locality.

On March 4, 1959, 83 days after the triumph of the Revolution, ICAIC was founded, an institution devoted to the fulfillment of two ambitious goals: to have a national cinema, to which these remarkable actors have contributed, and promote creation of a more informed and educated public.
