Raul Castro Congratulates the National Symphony Orchestra on its 55th birthdayHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro sent a congratulatory message to the members of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) to mark the 55th anniversary of this cultural institution.

The letter was delivered to them on Sunday by Julian Gonzalez Toledo, Culture Minister, before the concert given in the framework of the XXVII Havana Festival of Contemporary Music of UNEAC, reports Granma newspaper.

In his letter, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba highlights the role of the NSO in the promotion and protection of heritage values and describes the founding of the organization in 1959 as an early sign of the importance the new Revolution gave to culture.

Members of the orchestra reported feeling highly stimulated, and for the Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, director of the orchestra, the words of Raul imply a renewed commitment from the musicians to the creation and the memory of the founders.
