Combatants from the Interior Ministry to Praise the Legacy of Vilma Espin

Colonel Nelida Gonzalez Pelier said on Tuesday in Santiago de Cuba that Vilma Espin was always concerned for the presence of women in the Interior Ministry (MININT), for their capacity in serving the country in any sphere of life.

During a meeting to praise the legacy of the Heroine of the Revolution, the head of MININT's Center for the Protection of Children in the province of Santiago de Cuba, highlighted Vilma's dedication in supporting families in shaping their children, above all, those will vulnerabilities, experience that are useful in today's work.

Member of the secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in the territory, Nelida recalled that Vilma and Fidel expressed interest in the search for alternatives to give specialized attention to children and adolescence that presented problems of conduct and were victims of crimes.

She highlighted the capacity of the eternal president of the FMC, of propelling and being involved in endless tasks of society with examples of consecration and discipline while being a loving mother, loyal wife, great comrade and friend.

Ariadna Sanchez, young Lt. of the MININT, expressed pride in continuing the work of Vilma Espin and other great leading women and rebels of the country with a rich legacy in which the new generations nourish from, she said.

Other members of the military institution praised Vilma and characterized her as a symbol of Cuban identity, inseparable collaborator of Frank Pais in the underground work, courageous guerrilla during the war and fervent and creative women leader, loyal to Fidel's ideas of justice.

The exchange, sponsored by the women's organization on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of the legendary fighter (June 18, 2007), was a dignified recognition of the outstanding combatants of the Interior Ministry, institution that celebrates its 56th anniversary on June 6th.

The activities in honor of Vilma Espin, born in Santiago de Cuba on May 7th, 1930 and was one of the most prominent figures of the Revolution, includes a panel on her work in defense of the rights of children and women, to be held at the Comandancia del II Frank Pais Western Front, today Historic Museum Complex.

The political-cultural gala to the memory of Vilma Espin Guillois will be held on the 17th at the Heredia Theater while a tribute will be held on the 18th at the Mausoleum to the heroes and martyrs of the II Front before the rock that honor her remains.
