MATANZAS, Cuba, Oct 20 (acn) Cuban First Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel assessed the strategies designed to make up for the lack of teachers in the western province of Matanzas, where the school year started with some 1300 education professionals less than needed.
The head of the Education Ministry in Matanzas, Raúl Hernández, explained to Diaz-Canel that they had hired professionals from other sectors, university students and retired teachers to guarantee the presence of an educator in from of every class, but that doesn't solve the problem in a definite manner.
The Cuban VP urged the officials of this Cuban province to look for alternatives, and visited the construction site of a teacher´s residence that will accommodate during the school those who live in faraway areas and are needed in Matanzas city, to help them avoid the long and exhausting trips every day.
Diaz-Canel praised the attitude of university students that took the responsibility to teach at different education levels, and stressed on the importance to include pedagogical classes in all university curricula.
