UJC and OPJM: April at a great pace

April arrives as always, at a brisk pace, to celebrate on the 4th new anniversaries of the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization and the Young Communist League, with the implementation of educational, cultural, vocational training, productive and sports programs, among others, linked to the heartbeat of today.

The Jose Marti Pioneers Organization was born in 1961, while the Young Communist League was founded the following year on a similar date, so that the first celebrates 64 years and the second 63.

Youth activities, including recreational activities and community and social work in agricultural fields, shantytowns and areas of difficult access, with social problems to be solved, have been attracting the attention of citizens for several days. There the young people, inspired by solidarity and a sense of duty, make their voluntary contribution.

The learning of the history of the country also takes place in the meetings and tributes, which have emphasized, as usual, the figures of Julio Antonio Mella, Ruben Martinez Villena, Frank Pais, the Saiz brothers and Abel Santamaria, among other heroes of the nation.
At present, young Cubans prioritize the updating and learning of the computerization of society, the use of artificial intelligence, participation in social networks and the widest possible use of the Internet, trying to overcome the challenges of the lack of advanced technologies, generated by the economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Nearing that day of joy, it is good to remember that the current political organization of young Cubans had as its predecessor the Communist Youth League, founded in the early twentieth century, in the years of rebirth of civism and adolescent and youth patriotism.
Many were assassinated in the streets and student centers such as the University of Havana while fighting for reforms in higher and secondary education, for equality, against corruption and the growing injustices in the country. This strengthened the combative tradition of the new generations.

When the time of the Centenary Generation arose in the early 1950s, the members of that force, led by Fidel Castro, decided not to let the Apostle die and to revive armed combat as a fundamental means to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
It is recognized today that the revolutionary triumph achieved on January 1, 1959 had as protagonists the young people led by Fidel and the vanguard of the 26th of July Movement and the Rebel Army, who from the Sierra Maestra at first and then in several points of Cuba carried out the struggle for the definitive victory.

Today the new generations have a different life and responsibilities not imagined in other times, but the seed planted by the heroes bore fruit and is something visible.

History tells us that Che Guevara contributed in a decisive way to the unity of the youth organizations existing at the triumph of the Revolution, first in the Association of Young Rebels and later, in 1962, in the Union of Young Communists.

Although the historical memory of the nation is a source of inspiration to which we return again and again, the most important task of today is in the current life, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country and seeking alternatives to not be defeated by the imperial blockade.
It is also for those affiliated to the children's organization that from the national education system prioritizes the forging of conscious, cultured and patriotic people. The work and thought of the National Hero José Martí expands the formative work with schoolchildren from elementary school to the end of high school.
