HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (ACN) “The expansionist policies and unilateral coercive measures imposed by some governments, and the growing dependence on them in conjunction with interventionism, are a menace to multilateralism”, Iran's representative said today during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The diplomat said that the U.S. sanctions imposed on Cuba are designed to accomplish petty national objectives and have serious consequences for the promotion of regional and international peace, as they stand as a major obstacle to the constitution not only of a prosperous and peaceful world but also of a just and equitable international order, which is essential to achieve sustainable development.
He referred to the U.S. blockade of Cuba as an inhumane method to deprive the Cuban people of their basic rights, including their access to health, education and a dignified life, in addition to the severe punishment thus imposed on independent countries that refuse to bow to that hegemonic program.
“At this critical juncture, the world is facing complex challenges that demand unity and multilateralism more than ever, especially in the midst of the genocide, brutality and crimes of the Israeli regime against the people of Gaza”, he stressed.
Iran once again addressed the UNGA to reassert its solidarity with Cuba in the fight against the U.S. blockade, one of the most persistent and serious challenges to international peace and security.
