HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 25 (ACN) Peter Katjavivi, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia, who is on an official visit to Havana, laid a wreath in tribute to the Cuban National Hero.
Accompanied by Ana Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Katjavivi visited the Jose Marti Memorial, in Havana, according to the Parliament of the Caribbean nation on X.
On Wednesday night, Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of the Republic of Cuba, talked with the illustrious visitor.
According to information published by the Presidency on its website, during his stay in Cuba, where he arrived leading a delegation of Namibian parliamentarians from different parties, Katjavivi held official talks with his Cuban counterpart, member of the Political Bureau Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power.
In another moment of the visit, Peter Katjavivi, speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, received the status of Distinguished Visitor of the University of Havana (UH).
In an emotional and solemn ceremony held in Room 250 of the Enrique Jose Varona Convention Center of the House of Higher Studies, the distinction was awarded on the basis of his social recognition, his imprint at international level and his notable contributions in various fields of Education and Political Sciences.
Deputy Miriam Nicado Garcia, member of the Council of State and rector of the UH, during the ceremony signified the imprint of this academic institution in the history of the Homeland and the close ties of friendship between Cuba and Namibia, forged in the common struggles of their peoples and in a close friendship between Fidel Castro and Sam Nujoma.
Katjavivi, for his part, thanked for the distinction conferred, reiterated the solidarity with the Cuban people, and stressed the ample potentialities for strengthening bilateral cooperation, the statement added.
Ana María Mari Machado, vice-president of the Cuban Parliament; directors of the National Assembly's commissions; members of the Board of Directors of the University of Havana; and members of the African diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba were also present.
