Cuban university fosters internationalization process

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Mar 8 (ACN) The internationalization process of the University of Camagüey (central-eastern Cuba) Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz favors the development of strategic areas and sectors of the country, from foreign stays and exchanges that promote research in different areas of knowledge.

Yaile Caballero Mota, director of International Relations of the institution, said that the priority is focused on telecommunications, information technologies, tourism, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and biomedical productions, the electro-energy field, industry, food production, construction and professional technical services abroad.

At present, she commented that this city's house of higher studies is part of 23 international academic networks and six foreign associations with the participation of professors from different faculties, while maintaining links with the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Iberoamerican Postgraduate University Association, the Inter-American University Organization, the Latin American Committee of Educational Mathematics, among other organizations.

She also noted that 12 students from Spain, Colombia, Mexico and Peru were incorporated to carry out academic stays in the degrees of Civil Engineering, Applied Sciences, Physical Culture, Agronomy, Pedagogical Sciences, Veterinary and Economic Sciences of the University of Camagüey.

Caballero Mota also mentioned the 32 foreign students included in postgraduate programs such as doctorates, masters, diploma and short courses, as well as the participation of 50 professors in some kind of academic and scientific mobility abroad.

As part of the research stays and other formative actions, 12 academics from Camagüey obtained scholarships in countries such as Chile, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Germany, China, Belgium and France, in support of strategic sectors, including telecommunications, information technologies, food production and the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology and biomedical productions.
