Debates in Cuban parliamentary commission insist on intersectoriality to strengthen culture

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 18 (ACN) The role of educational and cultural institutions and all the actors of Cuban communities in the strengthening of culture were today the focus of the debates of the Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment Commission, as a preview to the 2nd Ordinary Period of Sessions of the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP).

Luis Morlote, deputy and vice chairman of the commission, considered that although several cultural actions are developed in schools, they are still insufficient in some neighborhoods of the country.

All this is due, he pointed out, to the lack of art instructors and promoters to encourage projects of socio-cultural impact in those spaces.

Morlote highlighted the role of the houses of culture that preserve their mission of working in areas of difficult access and in communities in transformation.

Schools must preserve their essence as the most important cultural center of each neighborhood, where families play an important role, said Morlote Rivas, who is also president of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists.

He referred that the actions are projected in consequence with the 3rd Improvement of the Cuban Educational System that requires collective participation for social transformation.

Ivon Alvarez, deputy for the municipality of Bauta, in Artemisa, commented that government institutions and other organizations should accompany artists and writers in each of the communities to carry out their projects.

For Indira Fajardo, deputy for Chambas, the central province of Ciego de Avila, there is a need for communicational support in the visibility of community work where citizens feel identified.

The mission of democratizing culture is deeply revolutionary, which is shown in the community work and with such a necessary work as that of the art instructors, assured Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture.
