Cuban largest water treatment plant about to complete restoration actions

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Dec 28 (ACN) Actions at the Camaguey Water Treatment Plant, the largest in Cuba, are 99 % complete, with the operation of its three units to achieve a total treatment capacity of 1,800 liters per second, to supply most of this city, while work is underway on the assembly of the fifth pumping equipment that should be completed this month.

The investment favors the rehabilitation of this facility, currently the largest in the country, which will have a positive impact on improving the quality of life and health of 270,000 inhabitants of the city - with more than 320,000 population - and will guarantee the continuity of the service by having three pumping units working and two in reserve.

Leonardo Soto Romero, delegate of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources in this area, informed that at the same time, actions were carried out in networks, conductors and import of equipment, with a favorable impact on the modernization of the hydraulic infrastructure of the province.

He highlighted as the most important thing, the extraordinary effort in the midst of the incidence of the Covid-19 pandemic in the territory and the siege measures imposed on Cuba by the government of the United States through the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation.

In the midst of this situation, the commitments were fulfilled, Soto Romero assured, while thanking the reliability and responsibility to assume this project of water supply and sanitation of the city of Camaguey, with a scope of participation of the Saudi Arabian Fund for Development of 40 million dollars.

This financing will conclude the first stage of the aforementioned loan, which favored the volume of water demanded, the continuity of the service, and the quality of the water served, while creating the conditions to begin the execution of the completion and sectorization of the city's water supply system, planned in the Second Stage of the Project.
