Cuba ratifies its commitment to human rights mechanisms

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 30 (ACN) Cuba ratified on Monday in Geneva its willingness to cooperate and interact with the procedures and mechanisms of the United Nations in human rights issues and advocated for its distancing from selective and politicized positions

Speaking at the continuation of the discussions of the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Cuban diplomat Jairo Rodriguez said that while maintaining this cooperation, the Caribbean nation calls on mandate holders to guide their work with unrestricted adherence to specific missions and to the provisions of the code of conduct.
It is inadmissible that some human rights mechanisms continue to be used as a tool to push political agendas against certain countries, Rodriguez denounced in the forum scheduled until next Tuesday, according to Prensa Latina.
The diplomat also expressed deep concern about the use of the so-called "prevention issue", which he warned about its susceptibility to selective approaches and politicization.
Cuba rejects any recommendation or proposal that contradicts the UN Charter, the Council's mandate and the institution-building framework, and disregards the work of other bodies and mechanisms of the system, Rodriguez concluded.
