HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 25 (acn) Angela Melo, director of the UNESCO Division of Ethics, Youth and Sports, said that Cuba is in a position to increase its presence in international projects linked to that institution.
"The experience accumulated by you can be replicated from its contextualization," Melo noted in a meeting with PhD. Antonio Becali, president of the Cuba´s National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym).
The specialist, who is attending the International Congress Cubamotricidad 2018 running in Havana´s Convention Center, was impressed by the work of Cuba in the care of children with special needs, as demonstrated during the opening of the event that brings together representatives from 49 nations.
"It is a conquest that expresses the political will assigned to such a sensitivity topic," said Becali, who also updated her on the attention given to the work of disabled athletes and their international successes.
After exchanging about the work of Cuban experts in nations of several continents, Melo emphasized the role of physical exercise in behavior changes based on the application of pedagogical tools and advocated increasing its impact.
The UNESCO official used as example that from the advances in this field, Cuba can help to the development of an observatory designed to promote the empowerment of women in sport, which will contribute to develop joint projects.
«You may count on Cuba», Becali told Melo before specifying that the concept of sport as a right of the people has among its results the graduation of more than 78,000 professionals of this field.
