Cow milk output grows 20 percent in central Cuban provinceCIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Jan 6 (acn) The dairy farmers from the Cuban province of Ciego de Avila supplied a total of 15.4 million liters of cow's milk to the two pasteurizer factories of this territory during 2016.

The volume delivered represented a 20 percent of over-performance of the plan, due to the increase in the number of cows in milking, greater care to the herds and adequate planting of forage, despite the intense drought.

Sales to processing plants accounted for more than four thousand dollars of savings to the national economy, engineer Leonardo Pérez Rodríguez, a specialist in the livestock sector, told ACN.

Cooperatives of agricultural production and credit and services provided 85 percent of the provincial total, labor to which also contributed crop, livestock and sugar companies.

According to official sources, a ton of milk powder in foreign trade costs between 2 800 and 3 000 dollars, in addition to sea or air transportation from other nations to Cuba.
