Cuba can make a difference in the region´s tourism, says Diaz-CanelHAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) The President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel said that Cuba can make a difference in tourism activity in the region, due to the attributes that it treasures as a country, not only because of the sun and the beaches, but also because of its history, culture, identity and citizen security, which differentiate it from the rest of the world.

Diaz-Canel stressed the high responsibility of this sector in the development of the country, its second largest income source. With this motivation they have to work daily to improve management. We believe that this will be a good year for tourism, but we must strive to be more efficient, he said.

He detailed the complex international scenario, marked by attacks, threats and imperial rhetoric towards Cuba. Pretexts and manipulations have been introduced, as in the case of the so-called acoustic incidents. In addition, he added, there is the threat of the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

When talking about a more efficient administration, he pointed out that it is essential that public policies related to tourist activity -which cover both the state and non-state scope- are equally fulfilled in both. "Sometimes these policies are violated because of sloppiness, lack of detail and lack of preparation of the paintings that have narrow visions.

The President pointed out that in the country the non-state sector has been recognized as a complement to the economy, therefore there has to be an adequate working relationship. What we aspire to as a nation in terms of values, quality of service, care for the environment, our culture and history must be present in all forms of management.

"We have to defend only one quality: the maximum possible, both for international and national tourists. We cannot make a distinction between them. We all have to attend to the best we can... The Cuban people must be given good attention, they deserve it," he said.
