CAMAGUEY, Cuba, May 6 (ACN) On the occasion of the 152nd anniversary of the fall in combat of Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, young people from the central eastern paovince of Camagüey are starting from today until May 11 the Agramonte Historical Route, in alliance with the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC by its Spanish acronym), the branch of the Union of Historians of Cuba and the Movimiento Juvenil Martiano (MJM by its Spanish acronym).
Heinier Lian Carvajo Baxter, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League (UJC by its Spanish acronym), explained that the protagonists of the route accumulate an outstanding trajectory in the ranks of the UJC, and in that sense, highlighted the participation of students from different levels of education, as well as young scientists, electricians, farmers, doctors and officers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior.
He specified that the 152 Camagüey citizens selected to make the route will reach seven municipalities, where the replica of Agramonte's saber will be delivered.
This May 6, he said, the route starts from the birthplace of El Mayor, in the city of Camagüey, and will include other sites of interest such as the Provincial Court of People's Power, Agramonte Park, San Juan de Dios Square, the General Cemetery and the Revolution Square Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz.
At dawn on May 10, he added, they will leave for Potrero de Jimaguayu, the place chosen for a youth camp and a meeting with the highest authorities of the province, on the eve of the 152nd anniversary of Agramonte's fall in combat.
In that historic site, Lian Carvajo stressed, will take place the commemorative ceremony for the anniversary, opportunity in which young people committed to the organization will receive the card that certifies them as new members, while others with a meritorious career in the UJC will be recognized with the Condition Always Young.
At a press conference, Juan Mendoza Medina, president of UPEC in the province, insisted on the importance of visualizing, through the media, the history in a more attractive way for the new generations.
