Cuban Youths Stage March to Honor National Independence HeroHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) Cuban University Students staged a torch march on the evening of January 27 along major Havana streets to mark the 162 anniversary of the birth of National Independence e Hero Jose Marti and to recall that 70 years ago Cuban Revolution Leader entered the historic University of Havana.

The march, which is carried out every January 27, recalls the first university student march back in 1953 to mark the 100th birthday of Jose Marti, and thus signal the way of the struggle of the independence of their country in actions that would take place later like the assault of the Moncada garrison.

The Young Communist League took the opportunity to declare Fidel Castro, President Raul Castro and Second Communist Party Secretary Jose Ramon Machado Ventura delegates of honor to the 10 Congress of that organization.

University Student Federation President Yovani Montano addressed participants before the march kicked off to say that the youths would march with joy for the victory and he stressed their compromise with the message recently sent to them by Fidel Castro.

Max Barbosa, a journalism student at the march, said that if there is anybody that deserves an homage here or in any part of the world, that person is Jose Marti.

The march was accompanied by Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Cuban Communist Party; first-vice president Miguel Diaz Canel, and members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, as well as the five Cuban heroes: Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, along their families.
