Uruguayan lawmakers recognize Cuba´s global medical collaboration

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (ACN) Uruguayan lawmakers recognized with gratitude thousands of members of Cuba's internationalist medical missions, in a joint statement on occasion of the 15th anniversary of the 'Henry Reeve' Brigade.

Senators Charles Carrera, Enrique Rubio and Jose Carlos Mahia and legislators Gerardo Nuñez and Daniel Caggiani, from the Broad Front (Frente Amplio) party, recalled the first contingent deployed in Algeria in 1963, and the founding of the 'Henry Reeve' Brigade by the then President Fidel Castro.

'We also make this recognition because despite the economic sanctions, harassment and the US blockade, Cuba did not hesitate to bring solidarity anywhere,' the Uruguayan parliamentarians said.

This solidarity was once again demonstrated in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hundreds of Cuban health professionals have been present in nations such as Jamaica and Italy, providing assistance to those who need it.
