Cuba: Provincial and municipal electoral councils will be constituted

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 18 (ACN) The provincial and municipal electoral councils will be constituted throughout the country, in solemn acts, between September 18 and 27.

Prior to this step, the members of such bodies were elected or appointed in accordance with the provisions of Law 127 -Electoral Law- endorsed last July 13 in session of the National Assembly of People's Power, corresponding to the third Ordinary Period of sessions of the Ninth Legislature.
They will take office in their respective localities and in the presence of representatives of the Electoral Council of the highest instance.
In each act of constitution of the provincial and municipal electoral councils their members will sign the oath, in which they commit to keep loyalty to the homeland in the exercise of their functions, to proceed according to the ethical foundations that govern the actions of the electoral authorities and to act with impartiality, transparency and veracity.
According to the provisions of the Law, the electoral councils at each level have the function of organizing, directing and ensuring the electoral processes, popular consultations when appropriate, referendums and plebiscites that are called.
Likewise, the councils have a permanent character, they are the highest electoral authorities in their respective territories, they act with total independence from any other local organ, they must only adhere to and obey the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, the laws and they are accountable only to the National Electoral Council.
