Cuba: Heavy rains forecast for next two days

HAVANA, Cuba, May 23 (ACN) The Institute of Meteorology forecasts for this Wednesday and Thursday the occurrence of heavy rains in the west and center of the country, due to the incidence of a tropical low pressure system.

This depression was formed in the vicinity of the northwest of the Caribbean Sea and Central America and will move in a course close to the north, so it will affect much of the national territory.
The heaviest rains should occur in the Isle of Youth and the province of Pinar del Rio, but the entire population of the western and central regions should be aware of possible flooding.
Today, the Granma newspaper reminds Cubans that this danger is increased because the water table is saturated and many reservoirs have high filling levels due to the abundant and persistent rainfall in May.
People are reminded that they should not walk through flooded areas, touch fallen cables, or go to dams, rivers, and lagoons to fish or swim.
It is also important to remain protected in a place without danger of collapse or flooding, cleaning roofs and balconies, boil water and meet the guidelines of the Civil Defense.
