79th Anniversary of the Cuban Workers Confederation Celebrated in Santiago de CubaSANTIAGO DE CUBA, Jan 31 (ACN) Cuban workers celebrated on Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba the 79th anniversary of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) committed in strengthening unity and the union's participation in the upgrading of the economic and social model.

The General Secretary of the CTC, Ulises Guilarte referred to the call of the labor union to fight for unity, the commitment and victory in the context of its 21st Congress to be held in 2019 and struggle for a prosperous and sustainable socialism.

He recognized the merits of the workers, which with creative commitment and dedication rehabilitated the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, National Monument and sacred site of the Homeland in honor of history, including the new sculpture dedicated to Mariana Grajales.

The Santa Ifigenia cemetery was site of the activity where the workers paid tribute to the country's National Hero Jose Marti; the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro; Father of the Homeland, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes; and the Mother of all the Cuban people, Mariana Grajales.

During the ceremony, the Lazaro Pena Order was granted to sculpture Alberto Lescay, president of the Caguayo Foundation and the Jesus Menendez Medal to Omar Lopez, Conservationist of the City and Dr. Guillermo Mora, provincial director of Public Health.

Six workers of the Civil Defense Union received the Heroic Deed Medal and the Heroic Deed Flag was granted to Heroes del Moncada Construction Brigade, Restoration and Conservation Company and the Josue Pais Contingent.

Constructor Heriberto Castillo, expressed the motivation and great commitment that it implies to have obtained the recognition that encourages him to continue fighting for the country's economic and social development.

The General Secretary of the CTC praised the origins of the works union founded on January 28th, 1939 in honor of Jose Marti.

The First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba, Lazaro Exposito was present in the celebration as well as the President of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power.
