HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (acn) Cuba maintains its policy of "Zero Tolerance" to trafficking in persons and crimes related to sexual, labor or any other exploitation, by promoting measures of prevention, confrontation and severe punishment of perpetrators, as well as providing protection to victims.
This is based on a government system made up by the organs of the Attorney General's Office and the court system, and the Ministries of Justice, Interior, Education, Higher Education, Labor and Social Security, Public Health and Foreign Relations, among others.
To this we may add the National Center for Sexual Education and the Federation of Cuban Women.
According to the most recent reports presented by Cuba on the legal-penal confrontation on trafficking in persons, and other crimes related to sexual exploitation and abuse, the various legal instruments in force in the country also allow facing associated behaviors such as procurement, prostitution, pornography and child prostitution.
At the same time, Cuba has increased international collaboration, as a state party of many international legal instruments signed on the above mentioned topic.
These reports place the country in a privileged position to organize prevention actions, social achievements and security, equal opportunities for all, policies and programs aimed at women's empowerment, free access to health services, education, culture and sport.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry highlighted the next visit to the country, from April 10 to 14, of Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of victims of trafficking in persons, especially women and children.
Giammarinaro will follow a program of activities that will allow her to confirm Cuba's commitment to the fulfillment of its international obligations and to the development of its policy of "zero tolerance" to these crimes.
During the visit, the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva proceeded in advance to submit to the Special Rapporteur the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Victims, corresponding to the period 2017-2020.
The plan confirms the commitment and efforts of the Cuban Government to comply with human rights obligations and to prevent and combat crime.
In the meeting to assess the main results of the Cuban foreign policy in 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the election of Cuba to the Human Rights Council for the period 2017-2019, in which it was the most voted country in the region, with 160 votes.
This is recognition of the international community by Cuba's prestige in the field of human rights.
