Cuban Students and Sporting Glories spoke out Against the Blockade

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 18 (acn) The Federation of University Students (FEU by its Spanish acronym) and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym) spoke at the stadium of the University of Havana against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, imposed more than 50 years ago.

Hornets´ nest against the blockade was the name of this initiative, which was multiplied in all higher education institutions of the country where the FEU, the Federation of High School Students (FEEM by its Spanish acronym) and sport and cultural institutions demanded an end to this genocidal policy.
Students and sports glories supported the Revolution with pronouncements, deliveries of books and cultural and sport demonstrations.
Tomas Herrera, national president of the Commission for Assistance to Athletes, referred to the consequences suffered by athletes because of that policy, such as reducing scientific exchanges and the acquisition of sports equipment.
The executive added to that list, the prohibition of advanced technology to the Anti-Doping Laboratory, the siege to athletes with the intention of leaving the country during competitions abroad, in addition to promoting visits to Cuba of recognized athletes with subversive purposes.
The Olympic champion in Montreal 1976, Alberto Juantorena, stressed that thanks to the solidarity and unity of the people, Cuba has survived to this outdated policy that will fall by itself.
Yipsi Moreno, world champion, and twice Olympic runner-up in the women´s hammer throw event, condemned this policy and said that Cuban athletes have victoriously faced the lack of resources necessary for their training.
