Cuba Welcomes Talks between Colombian Government and ELN Guerrillas

In a statement issued on Monday, the Cuban Foreign Ministry welcomed the accord reached by the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group to sit at the bargaining table to talk peace.

The accord is the result of talks held between the two sides over the past few months, in which Cuba took part as a guarantor country.
The public peace negotiation table will be set up October 27 in Quito, Ecuador, which represents a new step towards peace in Colombia.
Both sides ratified that Cuba will act as guarantor country and host of the talks.
Cuba reiterated its firm commitment to the end of the armed conflict and the construction of lasting and stable peace in Colombia, and in that context, the island will continue to contribute in all possible forms, at the request of the two sides, to achieving a final accord between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army.
