Evacuees of Holguin Return Home after MatthewHOLGUIN, Cuba, Oct 7 (acn) Holguin province completed on Thursday the return home of more than 370,000 protected persons, after the passage of Hurricane Matthew through eastern Cuba.

Only about 2 000 people from Holguin, who were distributed in houses of relatives, neighbors and evacuation centers authorized for that purpose haven't returned to their homes.
At a meeting with the Provincial Defense Council, it was known that although the ravages left by the weather phenomenon did not have the presaged magnitude, several areas of the eastern province did suffer damages.
In the municipality of Moa, the most affected, 460 houses were damaged, 68 of them totally, while a dozen properties were damaged in the Frank Pais municipality.
Rafael Aguilera, Provincial Director of Education, explained that 12 centers were affected in Moa, half of them seriously, so it will be necessary to redistribute students in other schools of the territory when they restart their activities, scheduled for October 11th.
During the meeting, it was also known that the greatest damage caused by this hurricane includes the falling of trees and power lines with the obstruction of roads, damages to commercial and health centers, economic institutions and stores, although not of major proportions.
Damage to electrical services occurred mainly in Moa and Sagua de Tanamo, territories that are already working hard on their reestablishment, as is the case with the telephone system.
Measures adopted included the protection of stored food, food production for marketing even while in the recovery phase, the collection of solid waste and the pruning of trees, among others.
