US and Cuban pediatricians exchange experiences

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 4 (acn) Pediatricians from the Children´s Hospital in the US state of Colorado arrive in Havana to exchange professional experiences with their Cuban colleagues in the area of attention to the newborn.

The 13-member US group is headed by doctors Stephen Berman, from the University of Colorado, and by James Perrin, from Massachusetts´ General Hospital and Harvard University. The two doctors were presidents of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The US specialists will meet with Cuban pediatricians on chronic health conditions in children and the development of the first child stage, according to the Colorado institution, cited by PL news agency.
They will also expose the early development of the brain and the reduction of premature delivery.
Doctor Berman told reporters in the US that they now expect to open real collaboration by making alliances with Cuba in order to improve the health of children in the two countries.
Berman, who is ad-hoc advisor to the World Health Organization and the Pan-American Health Organization, said that he would like to finally set up an exchange program so that Cuban doctors may go to the U.S. for training and US specialists may travel to Cuba as well.
This visit to Cuba was sponsored by the Cuban Pediatrics Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pan-American Health Organization, Colorado Children´s Hospital and the Center for Global Health at Colorado´s School of Public Health.
