HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 7 (acn) The Cuban U-23 soccer team drew 2-2 with Canada for Group A of the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship under way in the United States, and failed to advance to the semifinals.
According to websites consulted, Canada opened the score through Michael Petrasso in minute 26 but Cuban attacking midfielder Arichel Hernandez equalized in minute 33.
In the second half, Canada took advantage again through Molham Babouli (52 nd) but Arichel scored again (88th) to achieve the final draw.
With this result, the pupils of Coach Raul Gonzalez will return to Cuba, since they have no chance of getting a ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The balance of their three matches in the qualifying round was two draws and one loss, with four goals scored in favor and nine against. The United States led this group with nine points, followed by Canada (4), Cuba (2) and Panama (1).
The hosts and Canadians advanced to the semifinal stage that was also reached by Mexico for group B, which finishes today showing the fourth squad qualified to compete for the medals.
