Cuban top Communist leaders granted highest FEU distinctionHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 9 (ACN) Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and José Ramón Machado Ventura, First and Second Secretaries of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, received on Sunday the Alma Mater Award, the highest recognition conferred by the University Student Federation (FEU).

In the plenary hall of the Havana Convention Center and in the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, the presentation took place at the closing ceremony of the 9th Congress of the FEU, which from beginning to end became an offering of love of the "new pines" to the "pioneering" generation of the Revolution and, especially, to its historic leader, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
"The most loyal of all Cubans": this is how Raúl Alejandro Palmero Fernández, president of the student organization, defined the Army General, and when awarding him the Alma Mater Award, he also highlighted his example, temperament, serenity, youthful spirit, modesty, disinterest and invariable confidence in his people and in young people.
About Machado Ventura, Palmero highlighted the affection and constant attention and accompaniment of the younger generations, his accurate guide, tireless struggle and, above all, his loyalty to his country, the Revolution, the Party, Fidel and Raúl.
The Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party was in charge of closing this 9th Congress of the oldest mass organization of Cuba, and in his speech he alluded to the recognition of the FEU as an unexpected honor and in his opinion undeserved, but he expressed his heartfelt gratitude, above all, for coming from those who are the future of Cuba.
In the closing session, the Final Declaration of the Congress, read by Palmero and ratifying Socialism as the only possible system for Cuba, was unanimously approved by the 400 delegates, as well as the continuity of this Marti, loyalist, Marxist-Leninist and anti-imperialist Revolution, as the supreme mission of the young generation.
Declaration of principles is this document, as well as a roadmap of what the organization should and will do in the coming months and years to consolidate its life, functioning and work inside and outside the classroom and contribute more and better to the training of competent professionals who are at the same time committed to its people and the Revolution, with solid feelings, convictions, values and principles.
The text condemns the subversive plans and actions of the US, which target academics and, in general, the younger generations, and reaffirms the support of the FEU, always rebellious, revolutionary, lover of freedom and justice, with the world student movement and, especially, Latin America and the Caribbean, in their struggles for rights conquered by Cuba for more than half a century.
The session witnessed the farewell to the members of the outgoing National Secretariat and the welcome to the elected members for the new stage, a team that will continue to be led by Palmero, now with José Ángel Fernández Castañeda as vice-president, and again Mirthia Julia Brossard at the head of the Continental Latin American and Caribbean Student Organization (OCLAE).
