HAVANA, Cuba, May 18 (acn) Three thousand runners will participate in the 30th edition Marabana, Cuba's main marathon race, according to a note by organizers released on Tuesday.
So far, 2,545 Cuban runners have classified, who will be joined by 455 foreign contestants.
Carlos Gattorno, director of the Marabana / Maracuba project, specified that there are still two qualifying competitions for Cubans -the Race for Nelson Mandela on July 16 and the Olympic Ideal Marathon on August 13.
This sporting event that combines the competitive with the healthy practice of physical exercise, will take place on the occasion of the 497th anniversary of the founding of the town of San Cristobal de la Habana and of Sports Day.
In last year's edition, on November 15, Marabana set a record for that marathon with about five thousand runners, including more than 1,500 foreigners representing 62 countries.
As customary every year, one day before, Maracuba is held, with the presence of people of all ages in each municipality of the island.
At that time, men, women, children and senior citizens test themselves their ability to run, or take advantage of the way just to walk, with the incentive to reach the finish line and have exercised their bodies and minds.
