HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 27 (acn) Close to 10 million people have learned how to read and write by way of the Cuban literacy teaching method for adults Yes, I Can, which has been implemented in 30 nations since 2002.
In a press conference, Liset Valdes, deputy director of the Latin American and Caribbean Pedagogical Institute (IPLAC), pointed out that the number of persons that have learned how to read and write will exceed this figure by the beginning of 2016, since some 795,000 persons now in their classrooms should be graduated by then.
The Yes, I Can method, created by late Cuban pedagogue Leonela Relys at the request of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, has been adapted to English and Portuguese, as well as to the Quechua, Aymara, Guarani, Creole, Swahili and Tetun dialects, and will soon be adapted to French language.
