Cuba joins Mahatma Gandhi's 150th anniversary celebrationHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) With the planting of 150 trees in areas of the National Botanical Garden this Wednesday, June 5, Cuba joins the celebration for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, considered the Father of India.

The idea is part of the initiatives that since October 2, 2018 the government of the Asian nation has been proposing to people from all over the world and that will culminate on October 2 of this year, on the occasion of the 150th birthday of this universal man, standard-bearer of the principle of non-violence and respect for life.
In keeping with Gandhi's forward-thinking on environmental issues, government authorities and many other friends of Indian culture and traditions will attend the gathering to sow together and motivated by love and respect for mother earth, said India's ambassador to Cuba, Madhu Sethi, in an exclusive interview to Cuban News Agency.
I am very happy and grateful to the Cuban government and to the director general of the National Botanical Garden for collaborating with us in this initiative and of course it will also be an occasion to celebrate together the 500th anniversary of the City of Havana," said the diplomat.
Mahatma Gandhi anticipated time, as early as 1909 when he wrote the book Hind Swaraj, where he referred, among other things, to the need to do more for nature.
Madhu Sethi recalled that the Father of the Nation and central figure of the country's independence from British colonialism expressed that people should live with greater simplicity so that many others could live.
Gandhi alerted us to Mother Nature's ability to meet everyone's needs, but not to satisfy the greed of some, the ambassador emphasized.
In her statements, she said she was happy to feel the love of the Cubans for India and assured that all the invitations, whether for the practice of yoga, cultural activities or any other, have a great acceptance on the part of the people and the authorities of the Island.
The Ambassador described the relations between the two countries as extremely cordial, referred to Cuba as a peaceful place, full of love and joy, with admirable simplicity and said she felt here as if she were at home.
