HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 18 (acn) Several Cuban artists raised their voices in support of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples in their struggle for a better future during the cultural activity of the closing ceremony of the 24th Sao Paulo Forum.
Singers such as Liuba Maria Hevia, the Buena Fe duo, Tony Avila, Eduardo Sosa, Annie Garces and the Yoruba Andabo folk group, along with repentistas Aramis and Hector performed last night in the function that took place at Havana University steps.
At the meeting, a tribute was paid to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and attendees could hear fragments of speeches by him and the Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara.
The evening marked the end of three days of intense debate that took place in Havana, in that space of political agreement of the leftist forces that the Forum was.
The 24th Sao Paulo Forum was attended by more than 625 delegates from 51 countries and 168 organizations to reflect on the offensive of the regional right in recent years, and the strategies and articulations that the left should build in areas such as communication, training and policies to face United States´ hegemony in the continent.
The main projections of the Forum with view to its next edition are to demand the immediate release of former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the start of a campaign against the political persecution of the popular leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean, and to defend the region as a peace zone.
