The exhibition of the nautical activities offered by Marina Marlin in Guardalavaca beach, Holguin province, stands out among the online actions developed by the Mintur delegation to promote its own tourist product in the eastern territory.
Under strict compliance with the preventive measures established before the COVID-19, the maritime proposals within the reach of visitors to the beach or guests of the tourist centers were exhibited, among which the well-liked catamaran and aquatic bicycles stand out.
The service and recreational areas of the five-star Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Hotel, which is about to open to the domestic and foreign markets on July 1, were also promoted through this space.
This new lodging system served as a stage for the exhibition of varied gastronomic offers, including traditional Cuban dishes prepared by hotel and non-hotel centers such as Villa Don Lino, Palmares and the Empresa de Campismo Popular in the province of Holguín.
During the development of these activities, the strengthening of the existing link between the sectors of tourism and culture in the eastern territory was appreciated, from the participation of a varied group of artists mainly belonging to the manifestations of music and dance. The Museo Cafetal La Isabelica, located in La Gran Piedra, Santiago de Cuba, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation, which will last until December, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the declaration as National Monument of the ruins of the French coffee plantations in that area.
The coffee plantation La Isabelica dates from the beginning of the 19th century, property of the French landowner Victor Constantin Couzo, who named it after a very beautiful slave named Isabel Maria, with whom he had a love affair, according to the legends and testimonies of the last slaves in the region.
In 2000 UNESCO declared the Archaeological Landscape of the first coffee plantations in southeastern Santiago a World Heritage Site.
Its rescue as a museum was due to a meticulous work not only of the coffee plantation but also of everything that today counts the Gran Piedra as the meteorological radar, the seismological station of Río Carpintero and the rehabilitation of the ruins of the former hacienda La Siberia. The excellent conditions offered by the Jardines del Rey destination, north of Ciego de Avila, for the practice of nautical sports, are within the reach of tourists who visit the area.
The unrepeatable environment of the cream-white beaches and the extensive coral reef very close to the coast provide the leisure industry in this area with more than 30 immersion sites and three diving centers: Blue Diving, Coco Diving and Green Moray, located - respectively - in the Meliá Cayo Coco, Tryp Cayo Coco and Meliá Cayo Guillermo hotels.
Vacationers have options for night diving, nautical regattas for domestic and foreign tourists, canal fishing, snorkeling and boat rides.
The presence in these clear waters of over a thousand species of fish, 200 types of sponges, corals and a varied sample of mollusks, algae, gorgonians, crustaceans and sea fans will not disappoint those who venture to explore the seabed.
Other areas have also been identified for exploitation in the southern part of Cayo Coco, through nautical options with the purpose of creating new extra-hotel products. (Magaly Zamora Morejón, ACN)
