Cuba is a safe destination, and when Canada reopens its borders and air operations there will be an avalanche of vacationers to the island, said Lesner Gomez, director of the Cuban Tourism Office in Toronto.
For more than a decade, Canada has been the leading market for tourists to the island, the executive told the press and showed his optimism in the resumption of operations, which in 2019 totaled more than one million tourists from that northern nation.
Historically, the destinations with the highest demand for this market on the island have been Cayo Largo del Sur, Varadero, Cayo Santa María, Jardines del Rey and Holguín.
Gómez pointed out that the air restrictions to the Caribbean by the Canadian government will remain in place until April 30, so it is very likely that Canadian tourists will start flying to the island at the end of May.
It is foreseen that there will be a greater number of flights when the summer season is near and it can be much better for next winter in the island during the so-called high season. The Cuban official said that everyone in Toronto is very encouraged by the return and continues its work to promote Cuba as a destination. (ACN)
