The file of the Knowledge of the Masters of Light Rum was submitted to Unesco for possible inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

   The inscription will be a new stage in the dissemination of the traditional values of rum culture in Cuba, its good practices within the cultural spaces where they are recreated and in relation to other manifestations of traditional popular culture.

   Masters of Light Rum work in Cuba's rum factories (distilleries, natural aging warehouses, blending rooms), and play a leading role in these successive processes of creation combining tradition and innovation, associated with the manufacture of this traditional spirit derived from the production of cane sugar.

   Since 1862, there has been an uninterrupted succession of the knowledge of the Cuban rum masters, whose most tangible expression is in the aging cellars where successive generations leave their mark on the brandies and rums deposited in oak barrels.

   The Maestros also serve as a cultural bridge between the brands, the regions of the country and the world, and advocate responsible consumption in society.

   The knowledge of the rum masters, as well as the manufacturing spaces where the process of transmission of such knowledge occurs, were declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation in 2016. (ACN)
