The Libertad Hotel in Santiago de Cuba, which forms a complex with the Rex Hotel belonging to the Islazul Santiago Branch, celebrated its 75th anniversary on June 29, in the midst of an investment process to raise its quality standards.

   With a privileged location in front of the central Plaza de Marte, it has 17 rooms, a restaurant, lobby bar, meeting room and terrace bar, which visitors like very much for the panoramic view it offers of the public space and its surroundings.

   Ubeynis Morell Álvarez, director of the Libertad-Rex, told the Cuban News Agency that the first facility has been closed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and all that time has been used to remodel and refurbish the lobby bar.

   They have the necessary conditions to start in the second half of the year the second stage of rehabilitation, of greater scope, which will be extended to the rest of the lodging and service facilities, he explained.

   Morell Álvarez explained that the Libertad will be upgraded to a three-star hotel, currently a two-star hotel, so that it can be classified as one of the Encanto brand hotels. The purpose is that with its reopening it will be destined to circuit tourism for foreign clients, he indicated.

   In the future, the 24-room Rex Hotel, which during the pandemic provides lodging and gastronomic services to the business market, will also be used for international tourism. (Marlene Montoya, ACN)
