The annual General Assembly of the International Bartenders Association (IBA) awarded Cuba the venue of the 2022 World Bartending Championship, the most important event of that international organization.
Cuba won the hosting of the contest, to be held in Varadero, Matanzas province, in an IBA vote carried out virtually, in which it obtained 24 votes in favor, ahead of nations like Italy and Russia, with 13 and 14 ballots, respectively.
José Rafa Malem, president of the Cuban Association of Bartenders (ACC), stated on the ACC's official Facebook account that since 2018 they presented to the assembly the rationale for the request to organize the event and now they proudly received the approval of the participants.
Among the merits of the ACC that make them worthy of hosting the event, Malem commented that they include the history, development and acceptance of Cuban cocktails at the international level, the professional level achieved by the country's bartenders over the years, and for Cuba being a safe and hospitable place for visitors.
He added that the ACC, which has more than 1,000 members throughout the country and has its origins in the Cuban bartenders' club of 1924, also has the unconditional support of the Ministry of Tourism, and other ministries and companies related to its professional profile. (ACN)
